Reflection- The Journey of 6,613 Miles.
My speech delivery had its strong points and weak points. I wouldn’t call myself a shy person but for some reason I was very nervous. I was scared that I was going to mess up or forget some strong points. I think the biggest mistake I made was to delay my attention getter which made it lose its effectiveness and also made me go over-time in my speech, I wish I had made my point and moved on, it would have been a better speech then. I think I made effective use of my visual aids (I worked really hard to make it work), I was glad we got to use them though at first I didn’t know what I was going to show. The feedback from my audience was impactful; most of them seemed to enjoy my speech, which made me happy. I don’t think they noticed I went over-time in my speech because they wanted to know more about my experiences. I did a good job with breaking down my speech into sub groups to help my audience understand better. My instructor also enjoyed my speech but cautioned me about my attention-getter and time over lapse. I think all together it was a good speech because I didn’t use my speaking outline as a crutch, and I also made sure I made effective use of my transitional statements as necessary.
Generally, I feel like I could have done better. There is always room for improvement as I hope to do much better in my next presentation.
Reflection- Damsels in Horrific Distress
My speech had more strong points than weak points. I took a lot of corrections from my first speech and put it into my archival research speech and I think it paid off. My attention- getter was strong this time and my message was passed a crossed. I learned that attention-getters should not be too long or over dragged so that the audience doesn’t loose interest or become lost. I made effective use of my visual aids, it worried me that I may not have been able to use it to my advantage but I did. The power point was really helpful in giving a sort of identity to the women I spoke about. It also helped me with quotes and themes. The feedback from my audience was impactful; most of my peers really enjoyed listening to my speech, and decided that my message was quite impactful. There was no confusion as to the purpose of the speech; I was concise enough. I tried my best to be time conscious this time and it paid off. I did not receive any official feedback yet from my professor but she said to me that it was a good speech.
This speech was tougher than any other speech I have had to present because of the topic and the importance behind getting it right. I used my speaking outline a lot for this speech so I don’t forget facts. I remembered to summarize and use transitional statements; I think that helped the audience to follow my speech delivery.
Generally, it was good speech. I was happy with the way I spoke passionately about the subject matter because it is a very important topic to me. There is always room for improvement and I feel like I’m ready to go the next stage of speech presenting.
Reflection- The Head Eats…The Rest get Milked.
My expanded political cartoon essay was challenging for me to write about mainly because I had never written anything like it before. It was also eye opening on how little things count. Prior to these political cartoon analyses assignments, I never gave much thought to these political cartoons. I always looked at them as a source of entertainment and nothing more. But in my research for the expanded essay, I really came to understand various concepts and even understood the Nazi Occupied Europe Era. I wasn’t sure about my structure of this paper but I feel like I tried my best. I think my argument was solid enough and I had in depth sources and analogies of the sources used. My peers seemed to be pleased with my essay, My lecturer’s feedback encouraged me to remove some unnecessary parts of the speech, which made editing easier for me.
Generally, this was a project I enjoyed working on. It was challenging but it was worth it. I have gained new knowledge on political cartoons and how to analyze them if need be. I’m positive that if I were to write another political cartoon essay, I could do better.
